Written by Vacationer Staff

The southernmost point in the US, Key West is famous for watersports, lively nightlife, beaches and historic sites.

Here are our Top 5 things to see and do in Key West:

1. Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum

Ernest Hemingway lived and wrote here for ten years. During that time he wrote seventy percent of his life-time works. Today it operates as a museum providing guided tours every fifteen minutes from nine to five. Visit this National Historic Landmark, Literary Landmark and recognized by the Library of Congress for it’s importance in U.S. History.

2. Key West Harbour

Like a treasure in paradise, Key West Harbour is perfectly situated off the pristine shoreline of the Atlantic Ocean and the crystal clear waters of Boca Chica Inlet. The location is perfect for boating, scuba diving, ecotours and some of the best sport fishing in the Florida Keys.

3. Old Town Trolley Tours

Don’t just visit Key West, re-live it. Sit back while expert tour guides turn back the pages of history to the days of pirates, wreckers and the Civil War. Local guides combine colorful anecdotes, humorous stories and well-researched historical information into a fast moving 90-minute narrative that’s entertaining and educational.

4. Key West Shipwreck Treasures Museum

Step back to the Key West of 1856 and discover the treacherous world of shipwrecking and how it made Key West the richest city in the United States. Live actors, artifacts, laser technology and a 60-foot lookout tower make the experience one-of-a-kind.

5. Key West Botanical Gardens

The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden is the only frost-free botanical garden in the continental United States, a tropical environment with ample rain that allows most trees to retain their leaves in the dry season (December through late May). It is home to many endangered and threatened flora and fauna. Unlike traditional botanical gardens, this garden advocates the education and protection of native plants and species in a natural conservation habitat.
